Dementia Active was established in December 2018 and registered as a Community Interest Company the following year. Over the next two and a half years it has grown in size and in July 2021 became a registered charity - 1195246
There are currently five small activity groups for people diagnosed with dementia operating in village halls in the Cherwell district. The three hour sessions offer a range of activities designed to help maintain cognitive functioning and additionally give carers much needed respite time away from the demands of caring.
Since the ending of lockdown restrictions the number of referrals has steadily increased and it is becoming clear that the current service is no longer sufficient to meet local demand. In order to expand, Dementia Active needs a base from which two sessions a day can be provided, thus doubling the number of places available.
As an organisation we feel strongly that dementia services should be visible and not tucked away in village or community halls, therefore a building similar to this would be ideal in the centre of Banbury. In the long term Dementia Active aims to establish its own dementia centre in Banbury, in a building with perhaps the same prestige as a Maggie’s Centre. However in the immediate future renting a premises will be the first step towards achieving this dream.
The only way we can stay in a building Dementia Active can call home is by your generous regular donations. Please click below and play a vital role in what we do.
